On the second day of my trip to Washington DC, I visited Haad Thai for dinner after it was recommended by the concierge at the hotel. The food was amazing! It was probably the best Thai/Cambodian cuisine I’ve had in quite a while.
The restaurant is located close to downtown and to some of the major hotels. It is very easy to locate! The dining room was bright, clean and simple. The restaurant was not very packed for dinner service so the atmosphere was a bit ‘empty’. The chairs were plastic and were not very comfortable.
The first dish was Key Mao. It was wide rice noodles topped with spicy minced chicken and basil sauce. It was DELICIOUS! The spiciness came out in the aftertaste and the minced chicken was cooked beautifully. The wide rice noodles had a great texture and everything just melted in my mouth. YOU MUST TRY THIS DISH.
The second dish was Pad Thai. It was traditional rice noodles stir-fried with shrimp, beansprouts, tofu, crushed peanut, scallion and egg. I’ve had Pad Thai in many places, and this was pretty good. Not the best one I’ve had, but definitely respectable. The shrimp was cooked well and everything tasted authentic.
The third dish was Green Chicken Curry. It was a green chicken curry with coconut curry, bamboo shoots and fresh basil. The chicken was a bit on the dry side, but the curry flavour was amazing – just a perfect amount of spice. I’m a frequent visitor of thai restaurants and I always order the green curry dishes; this was one of the BEST. You can always judge a thai restaurant by their ability to perfect a green curry!
The waitstaff was really good. Our glasses were always filled and I have no complaints. They are polite, friendly, and are genuinely nice people.
